Polyphony Digital wrapped up its 2024 racing calendar in spectacular style with the annual Race of Champions (ROC), broadcast on its YouTube channel. This exclusive, one-race exhibition gathered the best of the best in the Gran Turismo World Series.
Event Overview
The ROC debuted in 2023, and its second edition delivered on its promise of high-end action. Featuring a star GT players roster, the event included twelve elite drivers who have collectively won 35 championships in the Gran Turismo World Series since 2018.
This year’s lineup was particularly impressive:
- Takuma Miyazono: 2024 Nations Cup Champion.
- Kanata Kawakami, Coque Lopez, Harald Walsen: The Lexus team that dominated the 2024 Manufacturers Cup.
- Jose Serrano: Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup Champion.
- Igor Fraga and Mikail Hizal: Fellow Grand Slam champions.
- Kylian Drumont and Valerio Gallo: Olympic eSports champions.
The Race Format and Setup
The ROC took place during Polyphony Digital’s year-end celebration, held at its headquarters the weekend before Christmas. Drivers tackled the Tokyo Expressway East Clockwise in a ten-lap race. The cars, custom-tuned road cars on Racing Hard tires.
Final Results
Each driver demonstrated precision and strategy, making the most of their cars strengths.
Igor Fraga displayed control and racecraft, eventually emerging as the victor.
Coque Lopez, pushed hard to finish a close second.
Mikail Hizal, always a crowd favorite, secured the third podium spot with a calculated and composed drive.
